Cedar Lake Ranch

A multi-building ranch estate

Cedar Lake Ranch is a multi-structure residential property designed as a cohesive whole. The project includes a primary residence, guest accommodations, staff housing, and working ranch facilities, all developed together to respond to the site and support how the property will be used day to day.

Rather than approaching each building independently, the entire property was planned as a single design effort. This allowed relationships between structures, circulation, and overall organization to be resolved early, resulting in a layout that is clear, functional, and intentional.

Overall Site Planning

The layout was developed to establish a clear hierarchy across the property, with the main residence positioned as the focal point and supporting structures arranged to reinforce that organization.

Circulation for vehicles, guests, and service functions was considered early in the process. Drives, approach sequences, and connections between buildings were designed to allow the property to function efficiently without overlap between uses.

Distances between structures were carefully managed to balance accessibility with privacy. Each building feels connected to the overall property while maintaining its own defined role.

Design Approach

The project was developed as a complete property, with architecture, structure, and site planning considered together from the start. Key decisions were resolved early to create a design that is organized, buildable, and responsive to how the property will be used over time.

Property Components

The Cedar Lake Ranch project includes several structures, each designed to serve a specific role within the overall property.

Estate Buildings

The Cedar Lake Ranch project includes several structures, each designed to serve a specific role within the overall property.

Every building on the estate was thoughtfully developed to serve a specific function while maintaining a consistent and unified architectural language throughout the entire estate.

Stables and Event Barn

A working and gathering structure designed to support daily ranch operations and larger events, with an emphasis on durability, function, and integration with the overall property.

Estate Organization

The property is organized around a clear architectural hierarchy, with the main residence establishing the overall character and presence of the ranch.

Supporting structures are positioned to serve specific roles while maintaining separation between primary living areas, guest accommodations, staff functions, and working ranch operations. This allows the property to function efficiently on a daily basis while also accommodating larger gatherings and events.

A consistent architectural language ties the buildings together through material selections, roof forms, and proportion, while variations in scale and form allow each structure to respond to its specific purpose.

Property-Level Thinking

This project was approached at the scale of the entire property rather than as a series of individual buildings. Decisions related to layout, structure, and architectural character were made with consideration for how each element contributes to the whole.

By developing all components together, the design avoids the disconnected feel that often occurs when buildings are added over time. Instead, the property reads as a unified environment that is organized, buildable, and responsive to the land.

Project Summary

Cedar Lake Ranch demonstrates an approach that prioritizes coordination between architecture, structure, and site planning. By resolving key decisions early, the result is a property that functions clearly, builds efficiently, and reflects how it will be used over time.
